This is the website of the Section of Caucasus Studies of the Institute of Slavonic Languages and Caucasus Studies (Institut für Slawistik und Kaukasusstudien).
Our institute is the only academic knowledge institute in Germany devoted to the study of the Caucasus from an interdisciplinary perspective. We offer BA, MA and PhD courses for students from Germany and abroad. Learn more about us.

Der Fachbereich Kaukasusstudien bietet allen Studierenden die Möglichkeit, zusätzlich zu ihren Studienfächern das Zertifikat „Georgische Sprach- und Kulturstudien“ zu erwerben. Teilnehmen können sowohl Studierende der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena als auch Studierende anderer Hochschulen. Studierende anderer Hochschulen, die nicht bereits über andere Programme an der Universität Jena immatrikuliert sind, benötigen einen Zweithörerstatus (uni-jena.de/Zweithoerer).
The Department of Caucasus Studies offers all students the opportunity to acquire the certificate "Georgian Language and Cultural Studies" in addition to their subjects of study. Students of the Friedrich Schiller University as well as students of other universities can participate. Students from other universities who are not already enrolled at the University of Jena through other programs need a "Zweithörerstatus" (uni-jena.de/Zweithoerer).
November 9-10, 2023: Conference South Caucasus after “Zeitenwende”: Dimensions of translocality and societal change
The conference is organized within the framework of the research project entitled, “Resilience in the South Caucasus: prospects and challenges of a new EU foreign policy concept” (JENA-CAUC), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The goal of the conference is to unpack the societal, economic, political, and security-related consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine for the South Caucasus region, and the transformational changes taking place in the region since the war. A Keynote by PD Dr. Tsypylma Darieva from the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOIS), will open the conference, and it will end with a Round Table discussion on South Caucasus after the “Zeitenwende”The conference will be held on-site.
